The ISSAOS Summer School Chaos in Geophysical Flows held in L'Aquila (Italy) from September 10 to September 14 2001, brought together scientists and young researches from both geophysics and theoretical physics and applied mathematics.
The purpose of the Summer School was to provide an interdisciplinary introduction to the study of geophysical problems on the basis of dynamical system approach and modern statistical methods.
Particular emphasis has been devoted to transport problems and climate modeling and predictability.
This School has been the starting point for the preparation of the contributions in the present book.
